BOO!
Do
you find yourself in the Halloween costume
aisle at Wal-Mart or Target feeling "dress up envy?" Do you watch the children at the door as you dole out the treats and think "I AM the Great Pirate King?" Or,
do you longingly flash on a memory of yourself
dressed as Galina, The Fortune Teller?
The art of dressing up, embodying a definitive persona and presenting ourselves in character comes quite naturally at a very early age. And, it is one of those skills that can grow with us.
Deep inside we each have a swashbuckling pirate king or queen, a great Flamenco dancer, an astronaut, an Einstein or a Frankenstein. Select your favorites, we each have many personalities living deep within us. And, a quick glance in your closet will tell you who is living with you right now.
Who is living in your closet? Is it you - the mom/dad, husband/wife, lover, sister/brother, son/daughter, teacher, mentor, neighbor, friend, chauffeur, soccer coach, financial consultant, cook, doctor, mediator, boss...?
WOW!!!
Just getting out of bed each day with your
whole team of personas intact is a huge
accomplishment. Your team may not be as
exotic as the swashbuckling pirate crew,
but they're yours. And, it's up to you
to show up with clarity and confidence
as all of "you."
Don't hide behind costumes. Let your image of yourself support and empower you. Let the voices in your head remind you of your inner strengths and daily accomplishments. Let your inborn love of dressing up and playing different roles encourage you and guide you to new and exciting adventures. Don't let the kids have all the fun. So, you've always dreamed of being Marie Antoinette? What's stopping you? Go ahead...dress up and eat cake!
Happy, safe Halloween to all. |
