Month 3: March
Building Your Wardrobe
I'm afraid there's just no way around it
-- before you can build anything, you must
clear the landscape. In this case, before
you can build yourself a successful wardrobe,
you must clear out those things that currently
take up the space intended for the new.
To get you started on your way to being the
proud and happy owner of a wardrobe that
works for you, protects you, announces you,
defines your place in the world...here is
a simple process you can follow called the
Closet Cleanse.
Before you begin, here are three key points
to remember:
- Your trash is someone else's treasure.
- Anything you “should” wear,
but don't, is draining you. Out it goes.
- Dress the body you have today. Tomorrow's
body will want and deserve something new
and fabulous.
Now, go to your closet. Take out each and
every piece of clothing in your closet, one
piece at a time. Examine it. Try it on if
you need to. Now place it into one of the
following three piles:
- Pile #1: Haven't worn in two years or
more
- Pile #2: Wear occasionally
- Pile #3: Absolutely love it. Wear it
all the time.
When you have completed the process:
- Load Pile #1 into boxes or bags and
immediately discard or donate all its contents
- completely - within 24 hours.
- Return the contents
of Pile #3 to your closet. These are
your “keepers.” You will
build on them later.
- Review the contents
of Pile #2 one more time. Now consider:
if a photo of you wearing one of the
outfits from Pile #2 were to appear on
the front page of your local paper, would
you think, “Hey, I look good?” Or,
would you want to kill yourself? If you
look good, that outfit can go back into
the closet. If you'd rather be dead, you
guessed it, out it goes.
Congratulations! You are well on your way
to building yourself the perfect wardrobe
to support you in the way you truly love
to live.
